Q: What is SEO

A: Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of making your website visible to search engines like Google. By following a number of development principles we can change the way search engines view your site.

Q: What does responsive mean in the web context?

A: Responsiveness is the ability of your website to respond the the size of the screen the site is being viewed on. This means your site will appear readable on all screen sizes.

Q: How do I choose the best host?

A: The choice of host will depend on the type of website you have. Some websites will run happily on a shared server, usually linux based, but more complex sites may require a Virtual Private Server (VPS). We are happy to advise you on the best host to suite your needs.

Q: How many products can I add to my e-commerce site?

A: Our e-commerce sites use WooCommerce – you can add unlimited to products to your website.

Q: What does Analytics mean?

A: Analytics is a service offered by Google or other companies to gauge user interactivity with your website. You can track page views, buttons clicks and much more, to give you a detailed view of how users interact with your site. This is important in determining future development needs.

Q: How do you test the optimisation of websites?

A: There are numerous tools to determine SEO and performance optimisation. One of the most useful is Lighthouse – a built in extension for Chrome. This provides an easy to understand score for SEO.

Q: What is Mobile-First Design?

A: It has been shown that most people browse the internet on their phones rather than a desktop computer. This means websites should be designed with mobile as a first priority. Responsiveness must be a factor in the design stage of any project.

Q: What is Your hourly fee for development?

A: Our hourly fee is set at R600 per hour or $33 for international clients.

Q: What should I provide when starting a new website?

A: You should provide as much material on your business as possible. If your site is promotional or informative, you should provide any logos, promotional shots and copy you can. For e-commerce sites you should provide at least one image, preferably in .png format, with a transparent background, for each of your products. When you start a project with us we will provide a full list of required source material.

Q: What is FTP?

A: File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is an interface with the file directories on your remote server. If you want to add or remove files from your server, you will need FTP.

Q: What does shell access mean?

A: Shell access is a term that describes access to the command line of your VPS. Custom built sites will often need to be installed on your server.

Q: What technologies do you use for custom development?

A: We use a range of solutions depending on the functionality of the site and cost considerations. We use Nuxt, Vue, Strapi and other libraries for NodeJS based development.
